Design Consult Question: Centerpiece Height

This is one of the most common questions couples ask over a consult, and it always comes from a thoughtful place: “We don’t want anything blocking our guests’ view.” Completely understandable!
The short answer is yes, you can choose all low centerpieces, but there are important design considerations to understand.
Low arrangements can absolutely work, especially in ballrooms with ceilings under 10 feet or in layouts that include a mix of table shapes (like rectangles). In these cases, low pieces can create a cohesive look, but they will require more units placed closer together to achieve the same visual impact that elevated pieces naturally provide. Without that density, the room can feel under‑dressed or visually flat.
If your concern is strictly about sightlines, it’s helpful to know that the actual “obstruction zone” is between 15 and 32 inches above the table. Anything below or above that range maintains clear visibility.
Ultimately, the goal is balance, ensuring the room feels dressed when the doors open, while still prioritizing your guests’ experience.
